In the early 1980s, Bob Rutter worked for a firm that represented insurance companies and realized that he had a significant advantage over opposing counsel. As in life, practice makes perfect and his firm had plenty of insurance cases to practice on to perfect the defenses typically raised. They knew the issues, knew the law on these issues, and had a library of briefs and motions ready to unleash at a moment's notice.
Opposing counsel, however, were usually handling their first insurance coverage case or appearing at their first examination under oath. They may have been very competent lawyers in their field, but their expertise in personal injury, medical malpractice, business law, or criminal law did not help them much in the technical world of insurance law coverage.
While regularly taking advantage of his superior resources and background, Bob had a thought: "If I ever leave this firm, I should work the other side of the fence, because nobody over there knows what they're doing."
In 1988, he put his theory to the test. He left the insurance defense firm and began representing policyholders. He eventually teamed with Rod Russin, now retired, to form Rutter & Russin.
In the last 28 years, Rutter & Russin has become one of Ohio's leading advocates for policyholders seeking justice against their insurance carriers. The firm handled the two leading cases in Ohio on insurance bad faith. Bob chaired the Ohio State Bar Association's Insurance Coverage Specialization Committee. He also served as chair of the OSBA Insurance Law Committee and as chair of the Ohio Association for Justice's Insurance Law Section.
As the firm's reputation grew, so did its members. Bobby Rutter joined Rutter & Russin after first representing insurance carriers in a Chicago defense firm for several years. He has also served as chair of the OAJ's Insurance Law Section, and is presently on OAJ's board of trustees. Justin Rudin honed his trial skills at the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's office before coming aboard.
The firm represents individuals, families, and businesses throughout Ohio and the Midwest. The attorneys at Rutter & Russin use their in-depth knowledge of the insurance industry to help policyholders recover the benefits to which they are entitled.
Rutter & Russin has been helping individuals and businesses with the wrongful denial of insurance claims for over 25 years. If you need help with your insurance coverage dispute, contact us today for a free consultation.
